Always a Queen⦠(My Mother)
You were always a Queen
Even when society pushed you down.
Even when those you loved most disrespected you,
You still kept your composure
Realizing they were just lost,
Blinded to the truth and the light
That emanated from your spirit,
Illuminating dark paths through the night
Even when your finances were low and you still had two mouths to feed.
Even though we didnât have all the expensive clothes,
We still had all that we would need.
And in my eyes, you were always a Queen,
Even when your countless sacrifices went unseen
You were there to cook, to clean, to provide shelter and clothes for us all
And still made time to wipe my tears away when I had taken a fall,
The one who worked all night just so the rest of us could stay alive,
The one that did for us consistently and put her own needs aside.
See, in my eyes, you will always be a Queen
Even though your countless sacrifices went unseen,
You were the reason that this family never fell apart.
You were the glue that held us together, actions led by your heart.
From you, I learned the definition of the word humble, generosity and peace.
You endured countless storms, carried crushing weights and still your love never ceased.
You always believed in me and my ability to do whatever I wanted to,
Taught me life lessons that to this day I carry with me to help me through.
Love unconditionally given, you never asked for anything in return;
You were always gentle and attentive, never cold or stern
And in my eyes you are always known as the Queen
Even though your countless sacrifices went unseen,
I finally realized all the pain and hurt and hard times you went through
Just so that one day you could see all of our own dreams come true.
You fought and struggled to help us cross treacherous waters and make it to dry land,
Ready to give up your last breath if it would help us to stand.
You were the one thing I never thought about changing in my life.
Sometimes, I wanted give up and fall victim to my adversities and my strife,
But you were the one person I thought of when ill thoughts passed through my mind.
Hurting you was impossible for me to deal with, so I always tried to find
Another path, and I fought back, even when I didnât think it could be done,
All for you, for disappointing you would be like blacking out the sun.
See, in my eyes, you are the ultimate Queen
Even though your countless sacrifices went unseen.
I appreciate everything that you are and all that you went through
Youâre still the highest Queen and Iâm grateful to have a mother in you.
